Like many schools wanting to prevent Sandyhook-like massacres, a private school in St. Petersburg will be patrolled by armed security guards between 7:30am and 7:00pm when the school is most populated by students. It is unknown how many guards will be on duty at a time.
Some of the school armed security guards have military experience and even degrees in childhood psychology and education. The school doesn’t want to use police officers because they school guards are meant for student security and safety, not to provide law enforcement.
To also enhance security, school personnel have been trained to intercom alert codes, classrooms have heavier door locks and tinted windows so a criminal can’t see inside. Also, in the future, physical barriers will be placed in the school and high school students won’t be able to enter areas where preschoolers are taught.
