The Armstrong County Court has approved a petition form the Leechburg Area School District to have an armed school security officer. This officer when on duty will wear a badge that has on it both “school police” and the school district’s name.
- Enforcing “good order” in school buildings and on school buses and grounds,
- Arresting suspects, issuing citations for summary offenses and detaining students until local police arrive.
As part of having an armed security presence in the school district to help prevent crime, the district is required to submit an annual report to the state Education Department. This report must include the number of employed school police officers and for each security guard the dates of and types of training provided to them.
