San Francisco sport fans are crazy with enthusiasm that their football team can win Super Bowl rings in the same year as the SF Giants won the World Series. With Super Bowl XLVII just days away, both the police department and private security firms have plans in place to maintain the peace in the city during and after the game. The Super Bowl may be across the country in New Orleans, but there are still plenty of security concerns at home.
Any public place with a TV set tuned to the Super Bowl is a place where fans will go to socialize while watching the game. Some of these gathering s will be small, but many will be crowded and packed places with emotions running high. In the peak night spot areas, these emotions can turn otherwise normally law abiding citizens to become violent and destructive of property like cars and store windows.
Hotels will beef up their security teams on Super Bowl Sunday to help keep their guests safe. The larger hotels mostly have bars where guests can gather to watch the game. During the home games of the 2012 World Series 5 SF police platoons were on duty. To make sure that the possible 40er Super Bowl victory celebrations remain non-violent, 9 platoons of San Francisco peace officers will be on duty throughout the city on game day.
