8 Hours Prerequisite Training Coming Soon

Ohio is in the process of mandating 8 hours of training for new security guard registrants before they start to work.  A Department of Public Works committee has been researching security guard training requirements of other states to provide a benchmark for proposing the Ohio rules. The committee has also discussed:

  • tier training as an option
  • training costs
  • who provides the initial security guard training
  • forming a committee to approval the security guard training providers
  • training for  firearms
  • who pays for the prerequisite training

All of these points aim to raise the  standards within the private security industry.  The committee’s goal is to have recommendations formed for new legislation in 2012.
